4 Techniques to Teaching English for Young Learners

Here, I want to share you about 4 techniques to teaching English for YL, they are:

 1.The Techniques of Teaching Listening.

First, the teacher pronounced the word several times. And the students just listen to the teacher. Then, the teacher asked the student 10 follow what he said. When he was sure that the students were able to pronounce the words, he asked them to it in union and then individually.

2. The Technique of Teaching Speaking

In teaching speaking teachers used drilling technique. Teachers to drill the students by asking them to repeat after teachers to make them remember about the lesson, even after they have already arrived home and have done other activities. Drilling on making good sentences and imitating good pronunciation is the main target of fluency. While pattern practice drills were as Follow

A.    Repetition

It was done by asking the student to repeat what the teacher said. For examples :

This is a pencil            This is a pencil

That is a window            That is a window

B. Simple question and answer

Is the pencil red?          Yes, it is

Is the bag blue?           Yes, it is

C. Translation

My name is Putri                   Nama saya adalah Putri

I am nine years old                Saya berusia 9 tahun

3.The Technique of Teaching Reading

In the teaching reading the teacher used the materials reading or reading textbook. The procedures were as follows:  First, the teacher read the text slowly and clearly. Second, the teacher asked to some student to read the text one by one. Third, the teacher lets the students asked the difficult word. Fourth, the teacher and students translated the text together. Fifth, the teacher asked the students to answer question based on the reading text.Sixth, the teacher collected the students exercise and then discussed the exercise.

 4.The Technique of Teaching Writing

In teaching writing teacher used the following techniques.

A. Dictation

The teacher read the word and then the students wrote that the teacher said. For example:
Grand Father ……………….

Mother ……………….

Teacher  ………………

B. Re-arrange the word

The teacher asked the students to arrange the word so that the words become a right sentence.

For example:

Is-name-Putri–my ……………….

Live — JI. — I — at — Melati ……………….
